Ozow, a leading South African fintech and payments provider, has partnered with Happy Pay to introduce Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) to its merchant network. This partnership enables businesses to offer flexible payment options at checkout while maintaining a seamless and secure transaction experience.
As e-commerce continues to grow in South Africa, merchants are increasingly looking for proven ways to improve conversion rates and meet evolving customer expectations. BNPL has emerged as a trusted solution to address both.
Through this collaboration, Ozow merchants can now offer BNPL directly within their existing payment flow, with no additional integration required.
Customers can split purchases over two paycheques, interest-free if payments are made on time, creating a more accessible and flexible checkout experience.
For merchants, this translates into:
Merchants also benefit from weekly settlement of the full transaction value, while Happy Pay manages customer repayment and collections.

BNPL adoption is accelerating rapidly both locally and globally:
This growth is driven by changing consumer behaviour. Shoppers are increasingly prioritising financial flexibility, transparency, and control, particularly in a high-cost environment.
BNPL meets these needs by offering predictable, short-term payment options without the complexity of traditional credit.
A key advantage of the Ozow and Happy Pay partnership is its simplicity.
Merchants can enable BNPL without any additional integration work, making it one of the fastest ways to introduce a high-impact payment method.
To further enhance performance, merchants are encouraged to implement the Happy Pay widget and Buy Now, Pay Later pull-out button.
We recommend adding a standalone Buy Now, Pay Later pull-out button directly to your checkout flow, as it improves the payment experience.

This solution is designed to help drive higher conversions and increase basket sizes, while remaining straightforward to integrate and manage, making it accessible for most merchant site administrators and enhancing the overall customer experience.

In addition to payments, qualifying merchants can access Happy Pay’s “Happy Ads” platform, which provides personalised product-level marketing to drive customer acquisition and repeat purchases.
This aligns with Ozow’s broader strategy of evolving beyond payments into a full commerce enablement platform, offering tools that support business growth end-to-end.
By combining seamless payments with flexible financing, merchants can reduce friction at checkout, improve performance, and better serve modern consumers.
As BNPL continues to become a standard expectation at checkout, this integration positions Ozow merchants to compete more effectively in an increasingly dynamic digital economy.
BNPL lets customers purchase items immediately and pay in instalments over time. With Happy Pay and Ozow, customers can split their payment over two paycheques with no deposit or interest, if payments are made on time.
BNPL provides a trusted way to meet evolving customer expectations while helping you grow your business through higher conversion rates, increased customer acquisition, and greater payment flexibility at checkout.
No additional integration is required, however the Happy Pay widget and pull-out button implementation is highly recommended.
Collections are managed by Happy Pay and you don’t take any risk on the collection of funds.
4.99% on the total transaction value + a flat fee of R4.00 per transaction.
The full transaction amount is settled on a weekly basis.
Customers select "Buy Now, Pay Later” on the Ozow payment page. They are redirected to Happy Pay to complete the process. Once approved, the transaction is completed and the customer is returned to your site. If the payment is declined or cancelled, customers can choose an alternative payment method.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your Account Manager or contact support@ozow.com.
Customers request refunds directly from the merchant. Once approved, the merchant logs the refund with Ozow, the amount is deducted from the merchant’s float, and Happy Pay adjusts the customer’s balance. The refunded amount is reconciled in the next settlement. Delivery or product disputes remain the merchant’s responsibility.
